Beloved let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. (1 John 4:7-11)
No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. And we (the apostles, disciples) have seen and testify that, the Father has sent His Son as Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in Him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. (1 John 4:12-16)
If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also. (1 John 4:20-21)
We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him.
We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.
And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen. (1 John 5:18-21)
That an idol is anything, or what is offered to idols is anything? Rather the things that the Gentiles (non-Jews) sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons.
Take careful heed to yourselves for you saw no form when the Lord spoke to you at Horeb (Mt. Sinai, the mountain of God, Moses and the burning bush; Exodus 3:1-22) out of the midst of fire, lest you act corruptly and make yourselves a carved image in the form of any figure: the likeness of male or female, the likeness of any animal that is on earth or the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the air, the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground or the likeness of any fish that is in the water beneath the earth. And take heed lest you lift your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun, the moon, and the stars, all the host of heaven, you feel driven to worship them and serve them, which the Lord, your God has given to all the peoples under the whole heaven as a heritage. (Deuteronomy 4:15-19)
You shall have no other gods before Me. (Exodus 20:3:6)
For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and four generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My Commandments.
